Every Thursday night one hour before Anaheim’s weekly Bible class, brethren assemble to discuss their personal evangelistic efforts in the community. Evangelistic songs that are on brethren’s hearts are sung, encounters with people in the community are shared and a variety of other subjects concerning evangelism.
This past Thursday sister Lois Norris shared that a woman came to her door to introduce her new office in the neighborhood. While visiting Lois asked if the woman went to church. The woman said she was looking for a church home. Lois offered her a personal bible study and she said it sounded interesting. The woman then changed the subject. Lois said she has her business card and wonders if she might be able to do some business with her, to have another opportunity to talk to her about the Lord. Way to go sister!
David Norris shared that he read his Bible while waiting in a doctor’s office for someone he transported there. When getting up to go and having his hands full, a man in the office got up and opened the door for him. David said, “God bless you.” to the man. The man responded by saying that seeing David read the Bible inspired him. Interesting right! Keep it up brother, good job!
We wonder what other acts this man’s encounter with David might have spurred.
Holly Yost shared that when she sees people post scriptures out of context on religious news groups she admonishes those using them to seek context. One scripture she has seen misapplied multiple times is 1 Corinthians 10:13. Some have posted this scripture stating that they know God will not give them more than they can handle in their busy lives. Holly points out that the context of that passage is about temptation not situations and day to day commitments. Wonderful!
Holly asked us to sing, “You Never Mentioned Him to Me.” And Lois asked us to sing, “Soul Winner For Jesus.”
I ended our session asking brethren to contemplate these questions: 1. What kind of outreach can you see yourself personally doing day by day, even if you are far from where you want to be in it right now? 2. What kind of things would you like help exploring in your outreach? 3.What kind of outreach would you like to help Anaheim do as a congregation?
I encourage you to ask these same questions of yourself. What part does God have for you to fulfill in His work of saving the lost?
You have a part, what is it?
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9,10 (emphasis mine).
