Monday June 2nd Duane Shelton and I had the privelage of meeting with two women in the community named Betty and Marry, a mother and daughter, for personal Bible study.
We studied the first eleven questions of the Open Bible Study by Ivan Steuwart lesson one.
After the study, Betty and Marry said that they thoroughly enjoyed the study and looked forward to the next one.
These women were met a couple of weeks ago during some door to door work Duane and I engaged in near the Anaheim meeting house.
Upon first contact with Betty at the door, she indicated that she was already a Christian, studying the Bible and satisfied with her church home. We celebrated that with her and indicated that we were not at her door to recruit her to our assembly but to encourage her to study the Bible. Then we asked her if she thought most people would go to heaven. She said that it would depend on what they did with Jesus, to which we responded with agreement and an invitation to look at a place in Scripture Jesus talked about it – Matthew 7:13,14
Discussing this passage led to discussing Matthew 7:21-23 and 2 Timothy 3:16,17 and and John 4’s water and spirit.
To wrap up the conversation we invited Betty to continue studying with us by scheduling a personal study. She did so and said she’d like her mother involved too.
“For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.”
This should be our prayer and hope for every believer we come across in our community. Our goal with them should be to allow God to use us to help accomplish this in their lives.
When we find those who have not yet allowed the Lord to qualify them to share in “the inheritance of the saints in Light” by obeying the gospel, we begin there.
Where are your kneighbors at in their relationship to the Lord? Will you allow God to use you to better their relationship for their souls eternal sake? I hope so.
