What do Denny’s, Subway, Carl’s Junior and McDonald’s have in common? Maybe a number of things, but the greatest is fertile soil for the gospel!
Since January 2014 One conversion, one introduction to a previously unknown sister in the area through personal study, five mini studies (Mt. 7:13,14, 21-23, 1 Tm. 3:16,17) and six additional contacts showing some level of interest in Bible study have been made in the above mentioned establishments! Thats thirteen souls exposed to pointed spiritual conversation about the Lord’s will for their lives. And this is not to mention those who did not make themselves known who may have observed and heard the studies taking place in those facilities. The seed of the Kingdom, the word of God, is being sown in Anaheim, producing fruit unto righteousness in willing hearts.
I said in a previous post that I would share details about an encounter some Anaheim brethren and I had with a waitress at Denny’s in recent weeks.
Sheila Sanchez and Fred Flory and I have been meeting to do personal work first and fourth Sundays off and on for some time now. One such recent meeting led us to Denny’s maybe half a mile from the Anaheim church meeting house. We sat in a booth eating together and discussing various aspects of the study built into the “We Care” New Testament. After lunch, while paying the clerk, said we had been studying the Bible while there and asked if the cashier/waitress read the Bible. She said she did not currently but has tried to over the years. When asked about why she doesn’t read the Bible now, she said she grew up in a family split on religion. She lived in at least a couple of different households who practiced different religions – Catholicism and Jehovah’s Witness. She said she tried to apply herself to each one when in the respective households and found it confusing. We suggested her confussion could be cleared up by Bible study to which she responded that even in turning to the Bible she found confusion, comparing the Catholic Bible with the Jehovah Witness one.
Time was short as she was at work and other customers were comming in. We invited her to accept a personal Bible study but she was not ready to accept. She did however accept our contact information which included the gospel message and a way to study the Bible online.
We hope to return to Denny’s periodically and try and build a relationship with her with hopes of initiating a personal study with her in the future. I do not have my records before me as I write this so I do not have her name. However, please pray in general for open doors for the gospel in Anaheim.
