Subsandwich Lines and Drive Throughs

What do subway sandwich lines and fast food drive throughs have in common? Opportunities to let your light shine!

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does [anyone] light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” Mt. 5:14,15

Just as the family was finishing up lunch today I received a call from Anaheim sister Janice Shelton on her and her husband Duane’s way to Pima, AZ for a wedding. She was so excited by the recent events of her and Duane’s lunch stop that she had to share it! She knew I’d love to hear it.

Apparently while Duane and Janice were stopped at a Subway preparing to have their subs built, another customer entered. The customer and Subway employee seemingly knowing one another struck up a conversation across Janice who was next in line. Duane was not yet in the line with Janice. Seeing an opportunity to serve these two people, Janice offered the woman behind her to go infront of her. The woman graciously accepted and Janice quoting a scripture shared that it was something she wanted to do as a Christian. This statement sparked interest in the woman Janice was allowing to go ahead of her and there was some light interchange on faith. Duane joined Janice in line and light enterchange about spiritual things continued.

The woman having made it through the line and purchased her sandwich went her way. When Duane and Janice went to pay for their sandwiches which was the only thing they were going to get, the cashier told them to pick up some chips also, because the woman before them had paid for their food also!

Janice didn’t share anything more with me over the short phone call she made, like whether they saw the woman again or talked about the event further with the cashier; but what a bright restaurant! The lights in that room were shinning bright!

Jordan Weichelt of the Kirksville church and current student of Freedhardeman University in Tennessee recently share with me that an evangelistic friend in Freed goes through drive throughs paying for the orders of the cars immediately behind him before handing the cashier a gospel tract. How cool of a illustration of grace is that!

God be glorified and every person who witnesses these events be moved to learn about the God of such gracious people.

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Mt. 5:16
