Evangelistic Yard Work?

What determines if something is evangelistic or not? Can tree trimming (Charles Kuhn above right) and sign changing (Peggy Kuhn above left) be considered evangelistic?

It depends upon why it is done.

Why do you participate in giving every Sunday? Probably for several biblical reasons. Is reaching the lost with the gospel one of them (Phil. 4:15-20)? Why do you attend the assemblies of the saints? Is provoking and being provoked to share the love of God with others among your reasons (Heb. 3:12-13, 1 Pet. 2:9,10)?

Why do you go to school? Is it only because you are made to? Could it be more? Should it? Why do you go to work? Is it only to make a living? Could God intend more for your job than simply maintaining your standard of living?

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God;
just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” 1 Cor. 10:31-11:1 (emphasis added).

Is sharing the saving message of Jesus with others meant to be an event to be participated in periodically? Or is evangelism meant to be a daily sharing of our gratitude for God’s mercy and grace through Jesus Christ our Lord with other souls? Is evangelism meant to be our lifestyle? Isn’t it meant to be who we are in everything we do?

Yes, “So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.” Acts 11:19-21

Charles and Peggy Khun worked on the meeting house yard with souls in mind. Is that evangelistic? Yes.

Fulfill God’s purpose for you to be an instrument of His grace in the world. Begin thinking about how what you already do can affect souls. Pray that God help you grow in your ability to point people to Him in all you do AND say.

Live evangelistically!
