Teena Hansen of the Kirksville church and I were face book messaging today when she shared an event in her life that I found very encouraging. She graciously consented to allowing me to share it here for your encouragement also.
Teena wrote, “The day before Christmas I went to pick up my medication at HyVee and the woman that works there is always so kind to me. I wished her a Merry Christmas and she got this really sad look on her face and said that it wasn’t going to be merry for her. I didn’t know what to say. As I stood there I felt the Holy Spirit stirring in me urging me to do something for her. So I asked her if I could see her at the consultation window and when she got there she asked me how she could help me and I told her that she could help me with a hug. And as I took her in my arms a prayer came out of me for her and when I was through she hugged me a little tighter and she was crying and told me that she really needed that and that i have a heart of gold. I nearly cried myself. But when she went back to her register she was now wiping the tears away and smiling. Praise God, Jeff He is so good !!”
What a wonderful example of Christlike compassion and love! Teena did not write about any further interaction with this woman, but surely the encounter has helped prepare this woman’s heart (and perhaps others who witnessed this, and still others this woman may share her side of this story with) for further revelation of God’s will for her life! What God could do with such a beginning! God be praised!
Who in our community might need a “hug” of sorts from us? When the opportunity presents itself, God help us to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in the boldness to act and words to share?
“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.” Colossians 4:5,6
